The Elasticity of Elasticity

چکیده
In this talk I assert that the usual interpretation of what one means by “elasticity” is much too insular and illustrate my thesis by introducing implicit constitutive theories that can describe the nondissipative response of solids. I show that response which was hitherto untenable within the context of Cauchy or Green Elasticity are not only possible, they can explain phenomena that have thus far defied explanation. There is another important aspect to the introduction of such an implicit approach to the non-dissipative response of solids, namely the development of a hierarchy of approximations wherein, while the strains are infinitesimal or have a limiting value, the relationship between the stress and the linearized strain could be non-linear! Such approximations have been used but without a proper understanding of the basis for such theories (they would not be logically consistent within the context of explicit theories of Cauchy elasticity or Green elasticity).

The Effects of Price Elasticity Dynamics on a Firm’s Profit
This paper studies the dynamic behavior of price elasticity and its effects on the overall profit. Although price elasticity has a significant effect on sales, its dynamics have not been examined so far in pricing models. In this paper, a simple pricing model is suggested in which, price elasticity is considered dynamic. The suggested pricing model is concerned with a monopolist that its object...
متن کاملON MAXWELL'S STRESS FUNCTIONS FOR SOLVING THREE DIMENSIONAL ELASTICITY PROBLEMS IN THE THEORY OF ELASTICITY
The governing equations of three dimensional elasticity problems include the six Beltrami-Michell stress compatibility equations, the three differential equations of equilibrium, and the six material constitutive relations; and these are usually solved subject to the boundary conditions. The system of fifteen differential equations is usually difficult to solve, and simplified methods are usual...
متن کاملEstimate of Armington substitution elasticity for fishery products in Iran
The price transmission from the international market to the domestic market of tunas was investigated in the present research. For this purpose, the elasticity of substitution between tuna imports with goods produced in Iran (Armington Elasticity) was calculated. Armington elasticity reflects a degree of substitution between commodities produced domestically and those produced abroad. A greater...

Abstract In this work, the Mellin transform method was used to obtain solutions for the stress field components in two dimensional (2D) elasticity problems in terms of plane polar coordinates. the Mellin transformation was applied to the biharmonic stress compatibility equation expressed in terms of the Airy stress potential function, and the boundary value problem transformed to an algebraic ...
متن کاملEvaluating The Impact of Cash-subsidy on Poverty In Iran
In this study, through the elasticity approach, we tried to evaluate the effects of cash subsidy on poverty reduction. In this regard, after the theoretical arguments about the poverty elasticity to income, Gini Coefficient, and price using the data related to the expenses and incomes of the 14701 urban households from 1389 to 1390, the quantitative value of these elasticity was measured and fi...
